Set up your first guided offer
Setup Savings guides shoppers through product choices from your Shopify catalog. Later options can change based on their answers. You can offer a discount when shoppers buy from different product groups in the same setup.
- In Shopify admin, open Setup Savings → Setups. Start with the Hands-Free example for a worked buying path or choose Start without paths to build a simpler flow. Open Quick setup tutorial for a walkthrough.
- In Products, add the groups and variants shoppers can choose from. In Shopping steps, decide what shoppers see and where each answer takes them.
- In Discounts & review, set the tiers. Use Preview shopper flow to try each route, then select Save draft.
- In Checkout setup, initialize checkout once, review the saved revision and activate it. Then add the Setup Savings builder app block to a draft theme and verify the actual Shopify cart.
- The tabs apply to the whole setup. Select a step card to edit that step in the side panel. The question-mark controls explain specific settings where they appear.
- Preview lets you try the shopper flow without adding to a real cart. Save draft stores your edits. Activate saved setup makes that saved revision available to the storefront builder.
Add products and collections
- Open Products, then Products & compatibility for the intended group. A group is a set of choices, such as Cases or Carry. Each shopper can choose one variant from that group or choose No item.
- Choose products / variants for a curated list, or Choose collection to use that collection’s membership. This uses your installed store’s catalog.
- Review prices, availability and compatibility. Set Lanyard connection only when the attachment method is verified. A case and cover must share the exact Cover compatibility key to match.
- Select Done to return to Products, then Save draft to keep the changes.
- Groups belong to a setup. Several steps can use the same group, and a step can offer more than one group.
- Use Refresh source or Refresh catalog sources after changing a collection. Review new variants and their compatibility, save the updated setup, and review it again before activating. A refresh alone does not change active checkout.
- Products need to be available through the Online Store to be buyable in the storefront builder. Shopify supplies current prices and availability. Selecting an item does not reserve stock.
Build or change a buying path
- In Shopping steps, select a step and choose whether shoppers answer a question or choose optional products. A question requires an answer and adds no product. Product choices offer No item.
- In What happens next?, choose Same next step for all answers or Choose a next step for each answer. You can branch where choices genuinely change the journey, use an existing step, add a step, or end the route at review.
- To rejoin two paths, point both to the same later step. For distinct choices within a shared step, use product matching or visibility rules under Advanced.
- Switch between answer buttons in the path map to inspect each route. Use the side panel to edit the saved routing. If you switch to a shared next step, review the destination and confirm the change.
- Preview both paths, including optional selections and changes to earlier answers. Save the draft when the result matches your intent.
- The path map shows one route at a time. Step numbers follow the route the shopper sees. Editing a shared step affects every route that uses it.
- Use remembered details and product matching for verified facts such as a selected family or fit. Simple answer destinations work without those fields. Making separate copies of downstream steps is optional.
Set discounts by purchased group
In Discounts & review, enter Purchased groups and Discount % for each tier. The highest qualifying tier applies to the eligible setup. A question, an empty group or extra quantity of the same item does not count as an additional group.
For example, a $36 case and $25 strap from different groups total $61. A 15% tier brings the merchandise subtotal to $51.85. An item added separately keeps its own price. One selected item can be bought on its own without multi-group savings.
- The percentages in the example illustrate how to set up tiers. Choose the actual offer for your store.
- Verify the total in the native cart and checkout. Shipping, taxes and other promotions can affect the final amount.
Activate a saved revision and preview your theme
- Save the draft and note its revision. In Checkout setup, use Initialize checkout on the first connection. It prepares the app-owned display product and the Cart Transform that groups eligible items.
- Select the intended saved setup and choose Review saved setup. Resolve product, catalog or checkout issues before choosing Activate saved setup.
- In Shopify’s theme editor, open a draft theme and add the Setup Savings builder app block where shoppers should use it. Keep the Setup Savings app path at /apps/setup-savings unless your store uses a different configured app proxy path. Leave Development configuration URL blank.
- Save the draft theme. In its storefront preview, try each route and click Add my setup. Verify the native cart shows the complete group and then check the merchandise subtotal in Shopify checkout.
- When you update an offer, review and activate the new saved revision. Confirm the active revision in Checkout setup and retest the storefront before updating the offer shoppers see.
- Only one setup revision can be active at a time per store in this release.
- The current builder supports USD carts. It allows up to four products per setup and two builder setups per cart, with an additional cart-size check that accounts for the underlying component lines.
- This production setup uses the Shopify app block and app proxy. A development preview URL is used only for earlier test environments.
Troubleshoot a setup
For support, include your shop domain, setup name, saved revision, the affected step or product group, and the exact error. Use a screenshot with customer details and private values removed.
| What you see | What to check |
|---|---|
| A product is missing | Check the source, Online Store availability and compatibility rule. Refresh the source and review any newly added variants before activating the revision. |
| My edit is visible in preview but checkout still uses the old setup | Check the saved revision and the active checkout revision. Review and activate the intended saved revision. |
| Price, stock or setup changed | Refresh the builder, review the updated total and reselect any unavailable items. If an add was interrupted, check the cart before trying again. |
| The Add my setup button is covered in a draft preview | Collapse Shopify’s theme preview toolbar if it covers the button, or use Tab to focus the button and press Enter. Check the storefront presentation before publication. |
| A cart is too large or uses another currency | Check that the cart uses USD. If the cart is over the setup limit, remove an item or an earlier setup and try again. |
| The app says checkout is already controlled by another app | Review the readiness message. Ask support to help identify the conflict before changing your existing checkout setup. |
Worked example for a hands-free setup
- Ask whether the shopper wants a new case or will keep their case.
- Send New case to Choose a case, then to Choose carry. Send Keep my case straight to Choose carry.
- In the shared Carry step, offer a direct-clip strap for a case that supports it and a GoKit with a tab for the existing-case path. A shopper can leave optional products unselected.
- Preview both paths. Add the case and strap together and check that they stay in one setup. Add a standalone product separately and confirm that it keeps its price.
